How to Make the Best Use of the Online Database
The contents of this database are designed to be used only while online, our logic being that we can make changes to the content at any time so you get the most up-to-date information available. This continuous updating process relies on YOU providing us with feedback after your exams. Feedback we receive from you gets checked and added straight in when we have complete questions.
Course setup. Once you have logged into ATPL Online you can change the course details you have set up by following the 'Change Course Details' link in the Course Setup box on the home page. Here you can change the course you are assigned to ATPL(A), ATPL(H), CPL(A) etc. The Save button preserves these settings for when you next log-in.
Forgotten password. When you set up your account, you will have set up your username and password. If you forget or wish to change your password, please use the ‘Forgotten Your Details?’ option below the login button and enter the email address you supplied during your signup. You may also request a username reminder in the same way. If you wish to change your username or registered email address, please send us an email and we can change either of these for you.
Getting started. There are various ways of using the database so we have set up a few different ways of choosing questions sets. Which option you prefer to use is based on personal choice but here is a simple explanation of the options available:
Practice Exam Containing a Set Number of Exam Questions. This option pulls a random selection of the number of questions you’ll be given in the real exam: useful, so you can see if you’re likely to complete all the questions in the time available for the exam (see Note 1).
Practice Exam Containing a Variable Number of Exam Questions. As Option 1 but this time you can set yourself a greater or lesser number of questions - up to 100 at a time from the drop down menu. Remember this is always a random selection so you can’t be certain you’ve seen every question in a particular subject (see Note 2).
Practice Exam Simulating Exam Conditions. This is the same as the Options 1 and 2 except you are unable to see any of your marks until the end of the exam therefore simulating the conditions of a real examination. This feature can be activated by ticking the box marked ‘Simulate Exam Conditions.’
Note 1: If you are having problems with a particular question, you have the opportunity to flag the question to review later.
Note 2: There is a tick box available that will only show unseen questions and means that you can see all of the questions in the database. As you go through the subject you will notice that the number of available questions reduces as you go through each exam. However, once all questions have been seen and you have been through the questions you have either got wrong or flagged for review, you may wish to see all the questions again. To do this use the Sequential Question Set (see below).
At the end of a test, you will be asked to enter a name for the test. It is defaulted to the abbreviated subject name eg GEN, but you can give it any name you wish, up to 50 characters. It will automatically record the date you took the test and the score you achieved. All completed tests of 20 questions or more will be recorded on the graph on your home page. The graph will show the latest 25 tests.

Sequential Question Set. This option allows you to work your way sequentially through all the questions in a subject. Decide how many questions you want to see for each exam and you can then systematically work through the subject. The database does not remember your last question so you have to remember how far you’ve got (starting at 1, working through 20 questions – next time you start, your start point is 21). This option is limited to a maximum of 200 questions at any one time. Experience has shown us that limiting the number of questions allows the system to function more efficiently and students are better protected if their internet goes down for any reason.
Test on Problem Questions. After you have gone through all of the questions, you can then test yourself (after further revision) on all of the questions that you have got wrong. All questions are listed by subject and will remain in this list until you have answered them correctly.
Test on Flagged Questions. If you have flagged questions for follow up or review, you can test yourself on these. Remove items from this list using the course administration page.
Search for Questions. You can search for questions using this option by entering specific words and phrases. The search only looks for the words contained within the questions and is only as accurate as the information you enter.
As you work through the questions, the "info" button offers additional information concerning the correct answers but if this information is insufficient or you've a question about how an answer is reached which has no "info" available so far, please send an email to support@atplonline.co.uk Do please ensure you include the question ID so that one of our tech experts can explain it.
We try really hard to continuously improve the database but this needs you to send us feedback. If you find any typos, duplicates, weird formatting – or absolutely anything that hampers your studying, then please let us know. If you can think of improvements we can make, please feel free to say so. We can’t promise miracles but this is an evolving system – the separation of flagged and problems questions in this latest version only came about following YOUR feedback!
Now get to work – but remember - memorising all the answers isn't an option for these exams, you must learn the subjects thoroughly and understand how the answers are reached. In that way when you get given a calculation you've seen before but using a different chart or if a question is worded in a slightly different way, you can apply your knowledge and get the correct answer.
If you have a problem with any of the questions on the database, please email us so that we can pass it on to our Subject Matter Experts who can advise you directly.
We offer technical support during office hours 09:00-17:00, Monday to Friday (UK time) but if you have an urgent problem please send us an email – and we will endeavour to respond as soon as we can.
